Come On In and Stay A While

Welcome to the blog of Staja Studios. We are STAcey and JAson Thon, the dynamic duo (self proclaimed) behind Staja Studios! This blog serves as our way to keep in touch with everyone we know, like, and love. We thought it would be a fun way for people who know us to keep up with what is going on in our lives and studio, and a wonderful way for those of you who may have just met us to learn more about who we are.
We would like to bring together our professional and personal lives. You can expect to see pictures from our latest weddings, engagement shoots, portraits, etc. As well as some personal, fine art, family pics, and other projects. In addition, we will be sharing our "Cheers and Jeers", and other random ramblings about whatever strikes our fancy. In the future we are also looking for ways to make things more interactive, if you will. This may include voting for a particular marketing piece, contests, and various other activities.
Thank you all for stopping by, and don't forget to - Get Captured!

Fun With Fashion - Part 3

Now that we are back from vacation, it is time to get a few images touched up and taken care of. For the past week's class, we constructed a mini set. As a group, we decided to utilize the window in the wall and put a gel over a strobe light and create an exterior light source similar to window light. This helped give the "room/set" a look and feel like there was a neon light outside, which also matched the model's blue dress. Similar to the past two weeks, we rotated turns shooting. I wanted to use this as an opportunity to really incorporate some of the looks I like in photography, but don't always get to utilize while shooting. I wanted a really moody and sultry night look. I hope that came through in the images. Let me know what you think.

See You In A Week!

Hey Everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that the family is taking off for a week in Florida. We will do our best to return e-mails and voice-mails in a timely fashion, but we will not be at home or the studio until the 27th!

Thanks for your understanding.

P.S. Hopefully we will get a chance to post a picture or two while we are gone!

More Fun With Fashion

So today's class assignment was to come up with what they call a DipTych (spelling?). What it is, is a full magazine spread where one page sets the mood, and the other page compliments it but usually focuses your attention on the physical item they are advertising, not as much on the person. This is a quick mock up that I came up with when I got home. If I come up with any more I will post them, but in the meantime, here's my first go. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for taking a peek! - Jason

Meet Baby Bishop

So I just LOVE it when our couples call us to photograph their new addition. How rewarding is that?!? We get to experience the day they become husband and wife and then come back to see the joy that a sweet, loveable newborn baby has brought to their relationship. Needless to say, our job is, bar none, the best in the world and we have made some fantastic friends along the way.

Check out Bishop's awesome parents getting hitched!

Anyway, this little guy is so chill. He was only about 3 months old, but I'm pretty sure he's got his daddy's laid back demeanor. Very contemplative.

I spent a couple of hours hanging out with the family. Just enough time for me to get a nice newborn baby fix. (Jason was happy about that). Those darn kids grow so fast, it's kinda sad for me that Ian isn't a tiny baby anymore....
Okay, now he's reminding me that when we go to bed, we get to sleep til morning.

That IS nice, I'll admit. Alright, enough about us, here is one of my favorite shots.

"Rollin with the rents"

Here is Bishop contemplating the fact that he really doesn't want his picture taken anymore!

Congratulations Christine and Randy! You've got a gorgeous baby and I can't wait to see him again!

Fun With Fashion

Hey everyone - I thought I would post a couple of pictures from my shoot tonight. For a long time now, I have been intrigued by the world of fashion, and how it is it's own art form. I love how the process designers go through is similar to any other artist. In addition, I have wanted to learn how to be more schooled in the way of fashion photography. In an effort to continue learning, and to experiment with bringing aspects of various genres into what we do, I signed up for a fashion photography class. This was our first night and we got the opportunity to do some shooting and work with a wonderful model. The point of tonight's class was to work with a real basic lighting set-up and shoot for a simple yet effective Calvin Klein type of look, yet give it a little of our own style. Here are two of my favorite images.
