Come On In and Stay A While

Welcome to the blog of Staja Studios. We are STAcey and JAson Thon, the dynamic duo (self proclaimed) behind Staja Studios! This blog serves as our way to keep in touch with everyone we know, like, and love. We thought it would be a fun way for people who know us to keep up with what is going on in our lives and studio, and a wonderful way for those of you who may have just met us to learn more about who we are.
We would like to bring together our professional and personal lives. You can expect to see pictures from our latest weddings, engagement shoots, portraits, etc. As well as some personal, fine art, family pics, and other projects. In addition, we will be sharing our "Cheers and Jeers", and other random ramblings about whatever strikes our fancy. In the future we are also looking for ways to make things more interactive, if you will. This may include voting for a particular marketing piece, contests, and various other activities.
Thank you all for stopping by, and don't forget to - Get Captured!

A Splash of Red

This is our awesome couple, Ruthie and Tony. What a pair these two are! Goofing around is their middle name:) Though we did get them to relax for a few straight up fashion shots! Ruthie, you know you can work it girl :)

They will be getting married in May and are incorporating just a splash of red into their wedding day decor. We all decided that this would be a great theme for their engagement session as well. We started out at the Sculpture Gardens and Conservatory. It was a rather overcast day, but warm enough (at least for this winter anyway).

As we left the Conservatory, the clouds began to break a bit letting the sun show through. Next, the craziest thing happened...it started to snow! Sunshine and snow, it was just GORGEOUS!

But no sooner had it all started, the clouds came back. We hung out at the garden for a little while longer taking advantage of a very well known Minneapolis landmark that just so happens to have a splash of red:)

We were starting to get a little bit cold, so decided to head over to the Gutherie Theatre. This place is just jam packed full of awesome photo locations. We never fail to find something cool and new to use as a canvas here!

And here's where they just couldn't help themselves. It is clear that Ruthie and Tony's relationship is a super fun and happy one. By the end of our shoot, their silly sides were not to be contained.

And then came the snowball fight...

Ah, you might think it's going to end here, but you are wrong.

THIS is how it ended:) Good work Ruthie!

To Ruthie and Tony, we has such an awesome time with you and can't wait for your wedding! We hope you enjoy your engagement photos!

Cheers & Jeers - Slumdog Millionaire

So, we are probably a little late to the party on this one, but Stacey and I saw Slumdog Millionaire this weekend, and it was fantastic! The story line itself was captivating, and the way it was told was even better. Not to mention, from a sheer visual perspective, Stacey and I couldn't stop commenting on the way it was filmed. A great mix of lenses and perspectives, interesting color palates at times, etc. As people who love the visual arts, it was really inspiring. Long story short, you probably guessed it, but this one definitely gets our cheers vs. jeers! We hope you all had a great weekend.

Cam and Jim - Recognized

So we have been very bad bloggers lately! We apologize. Between the holidays and trying to get some things in place for 09, we can't believe where the time has gone. Hopefully we will be able to fulfill one of our resolutions to be better bloggers for the new year.

With that said, we had some exciting news to kick the new year off. In the summer of 2007, I had an opportunity to go to a workshop put on by Mike Colon, one of the most respected wedding photographers in the US. Mike has started an "alumni group" for past participants. He recently held a photo contest for the alumni group, and one of our images was chosen as the winner. Mike wanted something that portrayed a moment, was lit nicely, flattering, and had feeling. We were thrilled that he picked one of our images and as a bonus, we won one of his instructional DVD's and our image is now the profile image for the group. Between our Staja Style - The Day After project and this contest picture, Cam and Jim are going to start building a celebrity status :)

Here was the winning image!
